You’re out at work. Your dog is at home. And somewhere between the guilt of leaving them and the hope that they’re okay, you wonder — what if this time could actually count for something?
Day Training is exactly that. While you’re busy, I work with your dog. Not sitting with them. Not entertaining them. Training them — building their confidence, developing their neutrality, and meeting their physical, mental, and emotional needs — so that when they come home to you, they’re genuinely fulfilled.
What Is Day Training?
Day Training is a service where I take your dog for the day and work with them 1-to-1 using the same positive, pressure-free methods I use in every session. It’s not dog sitting. It’s not boarding. Your dog doesn’t come home having simply passed the time.
They come home having done something. Having been genuinely understood. Having moved through the world with a little more confidence than they had that morning.
For dogs that struggle with anxiety, reactivity, or emotional dysregulation, a well-structured day in the company of an experienced trainer can move things forward faster than almost anything else. Progress that might take weeks of weekly sessions can happen more fluidly when your dog is getting consistent, patient, skilled input throughout the day.
What a Day Training Session Looks Like
Every day looks a little different depending on your dog — but the principles stay the same throughout.
Morning: Collection and Settling
I collect your dog from your home and give them time to settle with me before we do anything else. There’s no rush. For anxious or reactive dogs especially, that initial transition period matters. I read how your dog is feeling that morning and adjust what we do accordingly — not every dog arrives in the same headspace, and good training starts by meeting them exactly where they are.
During the Day: Structured Work and Real Rest
The day isn’t wall-to-wall activity — and that’s intentional. Genuine rest and decompression are part of the work. Dogs learn best when they’re not overwhelmed, so we alternate between active training and calm time in a way that keeps your dog in a positive, receptive state throughout.
What the active training looks like depends entirely on what your dog needs. The focus throughout every day is built on three pillars:
Confidence Building
Many dogs lack confidence not because something is wrong with them, but because they’ve never been given the right environment to build it. We work on this steadily — introducing new environments, sounds, and situations at a pace your dog can handle, using positive reinforcement to build associations that make the world feel safer. This is especially powerful for dogs with anxiety or a history of difficult experiences.
Neutrality Skills
Neutrality is the ability to notice the world without being consumed by it. A neutral dog can see another dog, hear a siren, or pass a skateboarder without tipping into arousal or anxiety. It’s one of the most underrated skills in dog training — and one of the most life-changing. We work on this throughout the day in real environments, at your dog’s pace, with no pressure to perform.
Understanding Expectations
Dogs thrive when they understand what’s expected of them. Not through force or repetition, but through clear, consistent, positive communication. Throughout the day I work on helping your dog understand how to move through the world with you — building the foundations for calmer walks, better lead skills, less stress at home, and a stronger relationship between you both.
Evening: Return Home
I return your dog to you at the end of the day with a full written update — what we worked on, how they responded, what you can reinforce at home, and anything I noticed that’s worth knowing. Progress doesn’t stop at drop-off. The update is designed so you can continue the work seamlessly, even on days you’re with your dog without me.
What Your Dog Gets From a Day Training Session
- Physical fulfilment — purposeful movement and appropriate exercise, not just mileage
- Mental stimulation — real engagement with their environment and the work we’re doing together
- Emotional support — patient, pressure-free handling that prioritises how your dog feels above how they perform
- Skill development — genuine progress on confidence, neutrality, and behaviour
- Calm — dogs come home balanced, not overstimulated or exhausted from stress
What You Get as an Owner
- A dog who comes home genuinely fulfilled — not just tired
- A written update after every session so you know exactly what happened and how to continue
- Real progress on the things that matter — reactivity, anxiety, confidence, or general behaviour
- The ability to go about your day knowing your dog is being cared for by someone who actually understands them
- Less guilt. Less worry. More momentum.
Day Training vs. Dog Sitting vs. Boarding
This is worth being clear about, because they’re genuinely different things.
Dog sitting is care. Someone is present with your dog, keeping them safe and comfortable. It’s valuable — and DroopyChaos offers in-home dog sitting in Harlow and Essex for exactly that purpose. But sitting isn’t training.
Boarding is overnight care, usually away from the dog’s home. DroopyChaos doesn’t offer boarding.
Day Training is active, purposeful work. Your dog is in the company of a professional trainer all day, and every interaction — every walk, every rest, every moment of engagement — is handled with skill and intention. The goal isn’t to pass the time. The goal is to help your dog become a more confident, calmer, more capable version of themselves.
Is Day Training Right for My Dog?
Day Training works well for a wide range of dogs — but it’s particularly effective for:
- Reactive dogs who need consistent, expert handling in real-world environments
- Anxious dogs who benefit from time with a calm, experienced handler outside the home
- Dogs mid-way through a behaviour programme who need additional reinforcement between owner sessions
- High-energy dogs who need structured engagement, not just exercise
- Dogs whose owners work full days and want that time to count towards real progress
- Dogs who’ve been struggling with confidence and need gentle, sustained support to build it
- Dogs pulling on the lead — where the real issue isn’t the lead itself, but their emotional state and understanding of what’s expected

Looking for Help with Loose Lead Walking?
If you’ve searched for “loose lead walking” help, you’ve likely already tried the usual advice — stopping when they pull, changing harnesses, watching videos. And you’ll have noticed it only gets you so far.
Here’s what actually makes the difference: loose lead walking is a handler skill as much as a dog skill. A dog’s ability to walk calmly on a lead depends hugely on the person holding it — their timing, how they read the dog’s body language, how they manage oncoming distractions, and how they advocate for the dog before the dog tips into pulling or reacting.
Generic tips can’t give you that. What gives you that is working with a trainer who can see what’s actually happening and give you the tools to change it in real time. That’s what Day Training delivers — or, if you’d prefer to be hands-on yourself from day one, a virtual 1-to-1 coaching session or an in-person Training Walk might be the better fit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does my dog go during the day?
Your dog works with me in and around Harlow — local parks, footpaths, and real environments that are relevant to what we’re training. They are never left unattended and are with me throughout the day.
Do you offer boarding as part of Day Training?
No. DroopyChaos does not offer overnight boarding. Day Training is a daytime service — your dog is collected from and returned to your home.
How is this different from a training walk?
A training walk is a single structured session focused on what happens on the lead. Day Training is a full day — covering confidence work, neutrality building, rest, engagement, and real-world exposure across multiple environments and contexts. The depth of work is significantly greater.
Will my dog be walked with other dogs?
No. Day Training is always 1-to-1. Your dog has my full attention for the entire day. This is especially important for reactive or anxious dogs who would not benefit from being grouped with unknown dogs.
What do I receive at the end of the day?
A full written update covering what we worked on, how your dog responded, what you can reinforce at home, and anything relevant I noticed during the day. You’ll know exactly what happened and what comes next.
Can Day Training work alongside 1-to-1 sessions with me?
Absolutely — and this is often the most effective approach. Day Training builds the foundations and accelerates progress; your 1-to-1 handler coaching sessions then give you the skills to continue that work yourself. The two complement each other well.
My dog pulls on the lead — what’s the best solution?
Pulling on the lead is rarely just a lead problem. It usually comes down to a combination of arousal, habit, and the dog having learned that pulling works. The most effective solution is working directly with a trainer who can assess what’s driving it in your specific dog.
Day Training addresses loose lead walking as part of the wider work — building the neutrality, confidence, and understanding that make calm walking possible. For owners who want to handle the lead work themselves from the start, 1-to-1 handler coaching (in person or virtual) is often the right route. Get in touch and we’ll work out which fits your situation best.
